Welcome

Thank you for visiting my website - I hope you find the information here both useful and engaging.

As a child, I remember sitting in front of a large black-and-white television in our back room, captivated by the live broadcasts from Silbury Hill as Richard Atkinson tunnelled into the depths of this ancient monument.  The excitement and curiosity I felt fifty-seven years ago while watching this unfold have never left me.  They continue to inspire my exploration of the past and the landscapes that shaped it.

Today, I have the privilege of sharing that passion with others through my courses, talks, presentations, and articles on the ancient world.  In recent years, I have been fortunate to dedicate more time to my fascination with the maritime landscapes of the Roman world.  It never ceases to amaze me how much there is still to uncover—how little we truly understand about the development of these landscapes and the workings of ancient ports and harbours.

Archaeology, and my relentless pursuit of answers about the past, has been a defining part of my life.  I am delighted to share that journey with you.
